Newborn Baby Essentials

When reflecting on the last 2 months with Kyleigh, all I can think about is the newborn baby essential items that have helped me survive. I don’t know what I would do without some of these newborn baby essential items. I’m all about helping other mommies out. Today I wanted to share with you what I consider the top newborn baby essential items. I would love for you to share what you consider your newborn baby essential items as well. Maybe there’s something I am missing out on and need in my life.

newborn baby essential items

Top 10 Newborn Baby Essential items

  1. A Pack N Play. These portable cribs are awesome! They can be used as a bassinet when baby is little. When baby gets older and you need to contain them it also can double as a playpen. Yes bassinets are so cute but the price tag definitely is not! Your baby will grow out of that bassinet within 2-3 months and now you have to put them in their crib whether your ready to or not. I also like the idea of being able to take the pack n play with us if we will be staying in a hotel or visiting family out of town. For the price, multi use, and convenience it’s a huge win!
  2. Uppa Baby Vista Stroller. When it comes to baby items, I would like to think I’m pretty minimalist. I don’t like to spend a ton of money. But this next item, the higher price tag is a must, and it’s 100% worth the investment! I bought a inexpensive train double stroller and let me tell you that thing is so horrible to steer and turn. You literally have to put all your strength to turn that stroller because it’s so long. And when you’re in a crowd of people forget it, maneuvering is awful, and I hate it! I dread when I have to push both my kiddos around in that stroller. Later on after my horrible purchase when I went back to the store and tried out the Uppa Baby Vista I couldn’t believe how much it turned like a dream. You can turn that thing 1 handed with a coffee in the other hand no problem. If I were to do things all over again, I definitely would purchase this stroller no doubt about it. The amount of money I have spent buying a single stroller, then double, jogging stroller, and an umbrella stroller is way over the price I would have just spent if I would have just gotten the Uppa baby in the beginning. The Uppa baby can be used as a single stroller and then when you have more children you buy the adapter and it will convert into a double stroller. If you need even more room for a 3rd child they do have the option of buying a piggy back ride along board.
  3. VaVa night light. I was recently watching a fellow YouTuber share some of the baby items she had recently bought for her newborn baby and she mentioned the VaVa night light. I had never heard of this night light before and never really thought of it as being an essential until she started saying she uses it for middle of the night feedings. Genius! With my other other kiddos I was always fumbling around in the dark or worse having to go turn on the big over head light. This light is awesome, you just double tap the top of the light to turn it on and off. And you can choose how bright or dim you want the light. I always keep mine on the lowest setting. I don’t want to disturb my husband or wake up baby. A added bonus was I also brought this along in my hospital bag and it was awesome.(What’s in my hospital bag/labor and delivery bag video) In the hospital rooms there’s no dimmer switch so it’s either pitch black or full blown bright as can be when the nurse comes in your room to do your assessment in the middle of the night. I set up this light right next to my bed and every time the nurses came in I would just switch it on real quick or even use it for checking on baby when there making all those little noises that freak you out.
  4. KeaBabies Diaper backpack. With my other kiddos I always just bought a generic diaper bag, I never thought to buy a backpack. But boy am I so glad I did!! First of all, when your carrying a diaper bag on your stroller and trying to juggle a baby, it’s such a pain in the butt. The straps are always falling down your shoulder and it just gets in the way. A regular diaper bag usually only has 1-2 pockets so everything is just pretty much thrown in 1 area. I couldn’t believe how many compartments this backpack had, not to mention the insulated pocket to help keep bottles cold or warm. The main pocket has so much room I can pack for both my kiddos. The backpack just makes walking around so much more convenient and easy to carry around. It’s so comfortable I barely even notice it’s there!
  5. Gerber Prefold cloth diapers. I don’t use cloth diapers for my baby girl as a diaper but I do use them as burp cloths. The cutesy diaper cloths that you can buy from Carters are adorable but they don’t absorb well at all. So the baby ends up spitting up and now you have throw up all over you and your clothes. I love the cloth diapers because their so absorbent and easy to clean. If you’re going to purchase them I would definitely recommend the 6 ply versus the 3 ply as there bigger, softer, and most absorbent.
  6. BOB jogging stroller. I know I raved about the Uppa Baby stroller but the BOB stroller is another must! You don’t have to be into fitness to get a BOB stroller. I hate running, yet I love this jogging stroller. I use mine for walking the neighborhood, taking the kiddos to the beach, or anytime I know the terrain won’t be as smooth. This stroller turns like a dream. Another advantage it has over the Uppa Baby is this stroller will go anywhere, and I mean anywhere! You can go up and down curbs no problem. I take the stroller to the park, the beach, through the sand and bark, and it powers through no problem. The stroller is a little more on the wide side but if your planning on being outdoors a lot then this is the stroller for you.
  7. Aden & Anais swaddle blankets. I refuse to buy any other kind of receiving blanket. Yes some of the receiving blankets can be so cute but your baby is going to outgrown them so fast! I have used Aden & Anais blankets for my last 3 kiddos. Six years later my kiddos are still sleeping with them and call them their “blankie”. These blankets are so soft, especially if you get the “bamboo” ones and swaddle the baby like a champ. They are so oversize they make swaddling so easy without over heating your baby yet in the winter they still keep baby warm.
  8. Soothe Pacifiers. I’ve tried tons of different pacifiers and these Soothe pacifiers tend to be the ones my kids always gravitate towards. I’ve never had any nipple confusion problems and they don’t push out your child’s teeth causing dental issues later. You can buy them in the generic green color, blue or get them in a cute purple and pink set. A really cute gift idea is the “lovey” that can attach to the pacifier, they make them in so many different animals. Not only are they adorable but they make it so you don’t have a missing pacifier when baby drops it and it helps hold the pacifier in the babies mouth as well.
  9. A&D diaper rash ointment. Hands down best diaper rash ointment out there! Everything else is just a thick white paste that burns your poor babies butt!! A&D actually not only heals the rash but also protects your babies skin from getting a worse rash. I refuse to use anything else on my kiddos. I’ve even used it on my 3 year old Kyndal when she sometimes get irritation from her underwear and next day she’s completely healed.
  10. Car Seat cover. I don’t know about you but when it comes to my babies, I’m a germaphobe! I don’t want any strangers looking, touching, or breathing on my baby! So how do you prevent this when you have to take baby out in public? A car seat cover!! Genius!! Nobody messes with your baby when there all covered up, but when baby is out in the open for everyone to see, you can guarantee strangers will want to be touching your baby. Not only is a car seat cover great for keeping strangers away but when it’s sunny out it’s great to keep the sun out of babies eyes and keep them cool. In the winter it’s great for keeping the wind off of them and keeping them warm.

Maternity Photo shoot

Maternity Pictures with Spark The Heart Photography

As I’m sitting here looking at my maternity pictures I can’t believe its been 2 weeks since I had Kyleigh. That last month of pregnancy felt like it was never going to end. Now as I sit here snuggling baby girl I feel like the time is flying by! Please make the time slow down! I didn’t take maternity photos with Kyndal which I kind of regret. I was way to stressed during that pregnancy to even think of adding a photo shoot on top of everything going on. With this being my last baby I knew I had to capture this special moment.

I asked around for lots of recommendations and Spark The Heart Photography definitely had the style of maternity pictures I was going for. On the day of the maternity pictures I couldn’t have asked for anything better, the kids cooperated, it stopped raining, and Kaitlin made me feel so beautiful in front of the camera. If you are looking to do maternity pictures at a reasonable price then I highly recommend Spark The Heart Photography, you won’t be disappointed!

My beautiful dress is from Pink Blush Maternity. They are definitely my go to when it comes to any special occasion while pregnant. I also bought my gender reveal and baby shower dress from them as well. The girls beautiful dresses are from The Children’s Place .They always have the cutest dresses and for such a great price, plus I love to be able to dress the girls up the same. Not sure how much longer Kirra will let me dress her up like her 3 year old sister so I have to take it while I can.

I’m can’t believe we are now a family of 6, I can’t wait to see the next family pictures!

Valentines Day Gift Ideas for Her

Pink Rose Quartz Jade Roller I have been wanting one of these for quite some time now, facial massage for an anti aging regimen is all the rage now, and I’m all about anything anti aging.

Pink Ugg Slippers My husband got me a pair of these for Christmas last year and I absolutely love them! You can never go wrong with the brand Uggs, yes they may be a little more on the pricey side but that’s because they will last forever!! I love that not only can I wear them inside but they have the tread on the bottom so if I need to run outside to grab the mail or walk the dog I can just wear my slippers and still stay nice and cozy without ruining them.

Paris Hilton Perfume I am not one for buying celebrity perfume, I’m sure they don’t even have much say on the product anyways, but I am so glad my sister in law bought me this perfume for Christmas because it smells soooo gooood!! I have never gotten so many compliments on my perfume then when I wear this one, even compared to my pricey Michael Kors perfume this perfume lasts longer on my skin and gets the most compliments. It has a blend of apple, peach nectar, freesia, mimosa, jasmine, sandalwood, and oak moss and boy let me tell you all that together smells amazing! You won’t be disappointed!

Love Bath Bombs What girl doesn’t love taking a bath? And what better way to make that bath more enjoyable then with fizzing pink love bombs!?

Hello Gorgeous Coffee Mug I don’t drink coffee but I would definitely be drinking my hot chocolate in this mug, I mean seriously how cute is this mug?!

Kate Spade Lunch Tote I just love anything Kate Spade makes! If you are employed outside the house or just go to school, this would make the cutest tote for your lunch or dinner

Pink Adidas Hat To my husband if your reading this, this is my #1 request for what I want this Valentines Day! I don’t need no overpriced roses or chocolates that I’m going to eat in a day, I want this adorable pink hat, and the fact that it’s Adidas makes it that much cuter!! I prefer the “mens hats” as well because they are usually fitted and for some reason just sit so much nicer on my head.

Pink Fluffy Airpods Case OK these have my daughter written all over them! She loves anything pink and then the little fluff ball just makes them all that much cuter!! I love that you can just clip them right to your purse or back pack as well, making it so convenient

Now that you have an idea of what I want for Valentines Day, I want to hear your ideas. What do you think is the perfect gift for Valentines Day? What are you hoping to receive for Valentines Day this year? And most importantly what are your plans for Valentines Day this year? Being 39 weeks pregnant this year, I definitely don’t think were going to be getting out this year to celebrate, we’ll just have to make up for it next year!

Sephora Sale

If you guys have been following my blog or even YouTube channel then you know I am obsessed with makeup, so when Sephora is having there annual VIB sale then I’m definitely on it!! Sephora rarely puts their makeup on sale & I’m not gonna lie, buying makeup from them can get a little pricey, so when they finally have a sale it’s the perfect time to stock up on your favorite products and even try some new ones you’ve been keeping your eye on! The first thing I definitely wanted to make sure I got was the Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte foundation, I have been using this for quite some time now and I love it! First of all it smells amazing, it definitely has that sweet fig peach smell, just makes me want to eat it, but besides that the coverage is so pretty. It’s not to heavy where you feel like a cake face but it’s just enough to cover your uneven skin tone and occasional skin imperfections. Next up I had to stock back up on the Kat Von D Shade n light palette, the bronze shade “shadowplay” is my absolute favorite and it only costs $16 for the refillable pans. Where else can you buy a high end bronzer for $16? Shadowplay is the perfect color for my fair skin complexion, its not to muddy and makes you look like you’ve been out in the sun for that beautiful sun bronzed goddess look. I also purchased the Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick in the color “Sunday Funday”, I’ve heard so many YouTubers and beauty bloggers rave about how it’s the perfect nude color and so I can’t wait to try it. I’m all about them nudes! Some of my other favorite products from Sephora that I highly recommend is the Sephora Waterproof eye makeup remover, I’ve tried so many different makeup removers and I found that so many of them burned my eyes, I don’t know about you but that doesn’t make any sense to me, it’s a eye makeup remover yet you cant put it on your eyes? Well anyways this one is amazing, so gentle on the eyes, no irritation, and it’s a great price compared to tons of others on the market. For a beautiful everyday natural look I always reach for the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow liquid eye shadow in “kitten karma”, I used it here in my latest YouTube video if you want to see it in action and get so many compliments when I wear it. As far as moisturizers go my holy grails are both by Clinique. During the day I love the Clinique even better skin tone correcting moisturizer with SPF 20 and then at night I use the Clinique Moisture surge intense skin fortifying hydrator. My skin just feels so soft after using these moisturizers and never dry! For lips you can’t go wrong the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks, I personally feel her formula is the best, doesn’t dry out your lips, and has the best staying power, My two favorite colors are “lolita” a brownie nude and then “lovesick” which is more of a mauve pink. I really hope you guys liked today’s Sephora Sale recommendations, don’t forget the sale ends Mon April 23rd.

39 week pregnancy update

I never never thought I would be 39 weeks pregnant, still updating you on my pregnancy, and still not holding my baby girl in my arms! Have you ever heard the saying, “Be careful what you wish for!”. Well that saying is definitely for me right now, I’ve prayed so many times and so has my family for a healthy full term baby. It definitely looks like I’m going to get that! I had my cerclage taken out exactly 1 week ago and even the DR told me, go walk around, and you’ll probably go into labor in the next couple days. My 39 week DR appointment is now tomorrow and he swore that I wouldn’t even make it to that point. My mom even took all last week off because we thought for sure as soon as the cerclage got taken out, it would cause me to dilate and baby girl would be on her way. Well we couldn’t be more wrong! Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy and grateful to have carried full term but at the same time I’m so anxious and ready to meet her. Every day I wake up all I can think of is, “OMG I’m still pregnant!!”. Every little pain or cramp gets me excited, all I can think of is “Oooh this is it”! But no nothing! I can’t call my husband, I can’t call my mom, because every time I call anybody they think I’m calling to let them know I’m in labor. And then don’t get me started with the phone calls and text messages everyday asking me if I’m in labor. That’s almost more frustrating then anything else with this pregnancy, I’m getting so tired of people asking me how I’m feeling. I just want to be like don’t worry I will let you know when I go into labor, if anything all this asking is just making things worse and giving me more anxiety. I’m trying so hard to not stress about still being pregnant, I know that when baby girl decides to make her grand entrance it will be perfect and it will all work out! She will come on her own time when she’s nice and ready.

pregnancy, full term, 39 weeks, pregnant, baby bump, high risk pregnancy
When I look at all my 38-39 week pregnancy pictures I can definitely tell how tired I am

Lets get back to having my cerclage removed….holy moly it hurt like a b*tch!!! I had read other woman’s blogs who were also high risk and some woman said it didn’t hurt while others did say it was painful. Well I was in the group that thought it was painful! It probably didn’t help that the DR couldn’t find the 2nd tie and so he had to reinsert the speculum and “search” around. When you are 9 months pregnant you are already so sore in that area and so to have the DR messing around up there is just pure torture. I had my husband go with me for moral support and boy am I glad that I did! I was squeezing my husbands hand as tears rolled down my cheeks. There was just so much pressure and it felt like the worlds longest pap smear. When the DR was finally done I had a little bit of bleeding but mainly felt so exhausted, the DR told me to go walk around to get things “started” but I literally was so tired and needed to go lay down. I swear that little procedure took so much out of me physically. It’s funny because I was reading some peoples stories and they talked about how they started dilating hours after the procedure and went into labor that night, so in my mind I was thinking that was going to be me too! I felt like I was going to stand up and right away start dilating from all the weight haha! Well that definitely didn’t happen! My husband even called me later that day asking if I went for a walk and if I felt like labor was starting. A big fat NOPE!! I just had a really bad headache and wanted to sleep! That night my mom even made sure to have both her cell phone and house phone next to her bed just in case I called them! Well this little girl has a mind of her own and is waiting for us all to be caught off guard!

That weekend we took the kiddos on the Polar Express train ride. The train is about 45 minutes away from my house which makes it about an 1hr and a 1/2 from the hospital. I definitely was nervous driving all the way but I felt fine before we left. If I had the slightest bit of cramping I would have stayed home or had someone else take the kiddos. The other couples we were going with joked that I was going to go into labor on the train ride so the whole time I was like please don’t let my water break or anything happen! We had never done the polar express ride before so we had no idea what exactly to expect, all I know is that it’s pretty pricey. For my family of 4 to go it was around $200! As soon as we saw Santa though it clearly became worth the money! Seeing the kids faces as we pulled up to Santa’s workshop and then getting to see Santa as he made his rounds on the train was so magical. Seeing Christmas through your child’s eye truly is the best thing in the world! Especially Kaiden my little 2 year old, he was beyond excited, there’s no Santa fear with him at all. A couple days prior we had even told him he needs to tell Santa what he wants for Christmas so as soon as he saw Santa he was sure to tell him, “I want a firetruck”! He kept repeating himself and it was the cutest thing ever, reminded us of Ralphie from “A Christmas Story”. We will definitely be going again when baby girl is about the same age as Kaiden was this time. It’s something you have to at least experience once.

Waiting outside the train (it was so cold)

Haha little “Ralphie”
OMG I look so prego in this picture
Waving to Santa in his workshop, Kaiden was so excited to see Santa

On Dec 19th we celebrated Christmas with my husbands family. Never did I think baby girl would not be here to celebrate this holiday with us. My due date per my 1st ultrasound is tomorrow, I definitely didn’t think I would be still pregnant on my due date! I didn’t even have anything planned on what I was going to wear because I didn’t think I was going to have to dress a ginormous belly bump! Months ago I even bought baby girl her Christmas dress and based the other 2 kiddos outfits off of her dress and now she’s not even here to wear it. That’s what I get for being so prepared! I kept the tags and receipt so it makes me just want to return it. Overall, Christmas with the Johnsons was very nice. My mother in law bought baby girl a snow globe that said 2015 on it, we joked that what if she wasn’t even born until 2016!

My cute little niece and daughter, they love wearing matching dresses
Daddy and Kaiden
So grateful for my family!
The sis n law and I
There was so many things I wanted to do in the month of December but everything was getting postponed because I wanted to do it with baby girl. So when it became 1 week before Christmas we knew we couldn’t wait any longer for certain things. We went to Costco and picked out our tree and came home and decorated it that night, I wanted to decorate it as a family of 5 but oh well we’ll have to wait until next year.
Kirra pretty much decorates the whole tree nowadays, I just sit back and supervise, it’s really nice
Don’t get me wrong I love all those fancy trees you see in magazines but at the same time my kiddos absolutely love decorating the tree. I’m sure it’s a memory that will last forever and they really look forward to it every year. So if that means plastic and mismatched ornaments then that’s the tree were gonna have.
What baby girl looks like this week:
According to baby center:
Your baby’s full term this week and waiting to greet the world! She continues to build a layer of fat to help control her body temperature after birth, but it’s likely she already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, about the size of a mini-watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.
Best moment this week:
Knowing that I can’t be pregnant forever and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Also just feeling so grateful for being able to carry to term this time. I don’t know what it is about the holidays but it really just makes you so thankful for all the blessings you have in your life!
Her movement is even fewer than it was before and it’s starting to stress me out! In the beginning you worry about miscarriage, 2nd trimester you worry about delivering early, and then at the end of your pregnancy you worry about still born. The worry never ends, I feel like it’s always something. Now is the time I definitely wish I had that Doppler but I have to keep telling myself to stay positive and that still births are very rare. When I do push on my belly though she will move a little bit, its just not big movements like I’m used to.
Labor signs:
I lost my mucous plug last week and I feel extremely sore down there but nothing is going on.
Looking forward to:
Meeting my baby girl and not being uncomfortable anymore. It hurts so bad to bend over, laying down in bed is such a chore, and I have to pee non stop. All I wanted was to experience what it feels like to be full term, be uncomfortable, and begging to get this baby outta me! Well I definitely got that and am so ready to get this show on the road!!!
pregnancy, 40 weeks, full term, high risk pregnancy, pregnant
40 weeks!! The day before I delivered~ my very last belly bump pic!
On Dec 20th I started contracting sporadically at 10am, since it was a Sunday, and my hubby was off from work he thought it would be a good idea to go for a walk/hike at Mission Trails right by our house. Holy Moly that was such a good workout, I was so out of breath, and kept contracting the whole time as we walked. We walked for about an hour and I felt like I wasn’t even going to be able to make it back. When I finally waddled home I literally felt like I couldn’t walk, I was extremely sore, and hurt so bad. The contractions still continued to come and go sporadically, but when they did come they definitely hurt. I tried to time them but it was so all over the place it wasn’t worth it. I told my husband I felt like something was going on but I wasn’t sure if this was going to be another “trick” or not. I contracted all day and then we finally went to bed around 10pm, as I laid down I told my husband the contractions were starting to subside, and I was feeling better! I was kinda bummed, another day gone by with no baby!! Or so I thought….birth story to come next!
