Review on the "Fake Bake" Self tanner

Since it is about 85 degrees here everyday lately in San Diego, CA, I thought it would be the perfect time to bust out some self tanner and give these pasty white legs some color! I have seen many great reviews for the self tanner “Fake Bake” before so I thought I would give it a try. Is there any self tanners that you guys recommend? Watch this video to find out if this tanner is worth the $26 or not?!

Healthy Superbowl Snack options

Did you know that Americans consume more calories on Superbowl Sunday than any other day of the year?? Holy Moly that is so crazy, I can’t even believe that!! I never really thought of that, when you think of gaining weight or consuming large amounts of food then you think of the Holidays but I guess I can see where this would be totally true. Have you ever sat on the couch watching your favorite television show eating a bag of chips only to realize that you’ve consumed the whole bag of chips without even thinking about it? When you watch TV and eat, it’s such mindless eating! We are attending my brothers Superbowl party this weekend and I just sat down to brainstorm what all I’m going to bring, I usually search Pinterest for my inspiration but today I went on Beachbody’s Blog, that is free for all club members, and they had some great recipe ideas that I’m planning on making and wanted to share with all of you. Sunday is going to be my cheat day, I plan on eating a ton but at least my food will be a little more on the “healthy” scale. Hey you still need to be able to enjoy life and that’s what I intend to do! It’s funny whenever people are around me they feel like they can’t talk to me about the donut they ate for breakfast or the piece of cheesecake they had for dessert. I always just laugh to myself, for 1. I don’t judge, everybody can do what they want to do with their lives, this is how I choose to live my life but I would never force it upon someone else and 2. I’m human, I love to eat just like everybody else. Give me some pizza and ice cream any day!! No matter what you guys choose to eat on Superbowl Sunday, I hope you have a great time with family and friends because that’s what is most important!

Huge Makeup Haul

I have always loved watching other Youtubers give commentary on makeup brands and products that they love and honestly that’s how I’ve learned to do my own makeup. I’ve always thought it’d be so fun to share my insight on makeup that I love and hate so with that being said I’ve decided to start making You Tube videos as well. My husband got me a camera for Christmas, nothing fancy, but it will do the trick while I figure out if filming you tube tutorials is as fun as it looks. It definitely is really nerve wracking, I recorded this video about a week ago and every day I sit and critique it. It’s definitely really hard to put yourself out there and I don’t know how some of these girls do it on a weekly basis. I’ve seen some of the mean comments people post on their videos and I honestly don’t know how they just brush it off. I know this is only my 1st video and as time goes on I will get better and more comfortable for the camera but either way it’s the perfectionist in me that wants it absolutely perfect but I need to remember other Youtubers like Jaclyn Hill or Casey Holmes didn’t have perfect videos when they first started either, they had to grow and evolve and it just takes practice and experience. After you watch this video please don’t bite to hard! Eeek!!

Over the holidays with all the sales going on I decided that I needed to not only do shopping for others but myself as well, so I splurged a little bit and bought a ton of makeup from Sephora, Ulta, Target, and CVS. Of course I had coupons though or the products were on sale, for those of you that know me know I’m a huge couponer and bargain shopper. So here is my 1st video with my new camera showcasing all my new goodies, hope you guys enjoy, and look forward to seeing future videos!

Clean Eating Snack Options

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed my last post on meal preparation and planning and were able to get some good ideas on what a typical day of clean eating looks like. Today I wanted to share with you some clean eating snack ideas because for me this is what I struggle with the most. I’m really good when it comes to breakfast, lunch, and dinner but then when it’s time to choose a “healthy” snack in all honesty I would way rather sit on the couch with a big bag of Doritos watching Real Housewives but I know that’s not going to get me the results that I want, so 90% of the time I don’t give in to that temptation. It’s also really hard for me because I have two little ones in the house and I swear that bag of Goldfish is always calling my name, I know it’s in there and I just want to eat it so bag! I know my children should basically be eating exactly what I’m eating but you try telling your picky 7 year old that for school lunch she’s going to have tuna with avocado, carrots, and almonds. She’d starve!! Ok now that was a little dramatic but you get the point, my kids will eat certain healthy snacks like apples and yogurt but for the most part they like the P&J’s with chips and a cookie, we are slowly working on introducing this lifestyle to theirs and I mean very slowly. So in case your stuck in a rut and need some new inspiration on what to eat here are some great ideas. Also remember it’s a good idea to mix things up a bit, if your constantly eating the same thing all the time your going to get sick of it and that’s when your going to end up giving up and go back to eating that bag of chips.

Get Fit in the New Year

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years! Sorry I have been MIA lately but things here have just seemed chaotic and cluttered. I don’t know about you guys but I can’t concentrate on anything else in my life if my house is a disaster and I feel like I’m being pulled in every which direction. So as soon as the New Year was over I was like that’s it, “I’m tired of feeling stressed and overwhelmed about this house and my life, I’m ready to get organized and start living a healthy lifestyle again.” So I’ve spent the last 2 weeks de cluttering and making multiple trips to the Goodwill to donate things, Dollar Tree for some organizational bins, and then Ikea for a brand new makeup/work desk area, and also a new hall closet organizational setup. I can’t wait for you guys to see the finished product, for those of you that don’t know I live in a 900sq ft condo with my husband and 2 children so any new toy or even just mail on the table makes the house just seem so cluttered and messy. I’m trying very hard to last in this house another “2 years” while we save for a down payment on a house but it’s getting very difficult, so any little thing my husband can do to make my life easier and flow smoother he’s on it! Haha! Alrighty so now before I get off topic any more my main New Years resolution which I’m sure was 75% of the human populations was to get back into a healthy lifestyle. If you had read my previous post then you recall I got pregnant back in September so with a combination of pregnancy (I’m nauseous so I’m going to eat carbs 24/7, to the miscarriage (now I’m depressed so I’m just going to eat chocolate and ice cream all day), to the holidays are now here so I’m going to enjoy myself, I have put on a very unwanted 12 lbs. There is a severe muffin top going on over here in these jeans and I’m ready for it to be gone! Not to mention I was still having severe headaches which I associated to hormonal imbalance, stress, and very poor nutrition so with all that combined I was ready to make a change. No more why me? My life sucks right now! No more lying on the couch feeling sorry for myself, I was ready to make a change and I knew exactly what needed to be done, so here it goes!!

We went camping out at the desert for New Years weekend so I told myself starting Monday January 5th you are going all in…and I have!! OMG I seriously can’t even put into words how good I feel physically. My headaches are completely gone and I just feel so much more energy in just 10 days of my new healthy habits. I don’t find myself moping around the house or feeling sluggish, I have a new found energy boost and it feels great. I honestly forgot how good I feel when I eat clean and workout 5-6 days a week. Why did I ever stop? Why did I let myself get lazy? I don’t understand why as humans we get into this funk of eating non processed foods for every meal and laying on the couch all day watching TV, it’s seriously like a drug that just makes us feel worse so since we feel so tired or like crap we continue to be immobile eating whatever food is within reach and it’s just a vicious cycle that is so hard to break and repeats itself!

So I started back on the 21 day fix, I’ve done about 3 rounds of this program, and I knew it could give me the results I wanted and the motivation to get back on track. Every time I do this program I lose anywhere from 5-10lbs, seeing those numbers on the scale move the way I want just encourages me even more to keep going and then helps me incorporate new workouts into my routine. In a way you could say it becomes an addiction, it’s really hard to get started but once you get going it’s harder to stop. If you don’t know anything about the 21 day fix it’s a super simple workout program designed by Beachbody and features my girl crush Autumn Calabrese. If you don’t know who Autumn is seriously go google her right now she’s hot and has such a nice body. Total inspiration right there!! In the 21 day fix…
  • There’s no counting carbs, calories, or carbs
  • You get portion control containers that take the guesswork outta eating
  • You receive a booklet that gives you a simplified nutrition plan that caters to even picky people like me (I’m not much of a veggie eater at all)
  • And best of all the workouts are only 25-30 minutes long (perfect for us mommy’s who don’t have a ton of time before the kiddos wake up or before there done entertaining themselves)
Most important though I don’t have to go to a gym, I can work out in the comfort of my own home, no makeup, hair thrown in a ponytail (weave looking all crazy, lets get real here I have extensions), no bra (I’m in my pajamas people come on now), and in 30 minutes I’m done and in the shower getting ready for my day, I’ve never left the house, and I’m getting the body I deserve!

So that takes care of my workouts so now it’s on to nutrition! In case you don’t know, being fit is 80% nutrition, 10% exercise, and 10% genetics. So you can go to the gym all you want, but if your eating processed food for every meal your not gonna see a change at all, no matter how long you run on that treadmill it’s just not going to happen! So if you are going to find every excuse in the book to not workout then at least try and have a clean eating lifestyle. And with that being said I will share with you what a typical two days of eating looks like for me so you can see that “No I’m not on diet” and “Yes I probably eat more then you do”! Mind you I eat every 2-3 hours, I never let myself go more then 3 hours with out eating!

For those of you curious about Shakeology! Let me just tell you it’s AMAZEBALLS!! I love it, especially after my workouts, I feel like it reenergizes me and gives me the protein I need to help build up my muscles. It’s also full of vitamins, nutrients, and probiotics so I don’t need to take a multivitamin. Huge plus for me and others if you are forgetful when it comes to vitamin taking! I was also taking it when I was pregnant, so don’t feel that just because your pregnant you can’t have it, the only thing you need to do is add an extra Iron and Folic Acid supplement. There’s no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, or preservatives only exotic superfoods so it’s totally healthy and goes great with my clean eating lifestyle! If you have more questions you can always check out the site Shakeology

Planning

You absolutely need to plan out your meals, if you don’t then your just going to reach for the 1st thing you see when your hungry and chances are it’s not going to be “healthy” or what you should be eating. “If you fail to PLAN then PLAN to fail”! Some things that help in planning are…

  • Print out a weekly meal planner! You can go to pinterest and just type in “weekly meal plan” and tons of different ones will pop up that you can download for free. Make sure to print multiple copies. Also you can go to etsy.com and buy a personalized one, they have tons of choices to choose from. Of if your crafty and good on the computer which I definitely am not then you can just make your own custom one
  •
  •
  • Meal Prep and Plan! Pick a day where you are going to sit down and figure out your meals for the next 5 days (breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner). I know this seems really time consuming but it’ll save you time in the long run so your not running to the store multiple times during the week or struggling to figure out what to eat after work, because when your tired and it’s been a long day of work that’s when your going to find yourself driving through the fast food lane and you don’t want to do that! Plus once you start doing this for awhile, you start acquiring a list of healthy recipes that work for your family so it becomes easier when you can just pull recipes from previous weeks menus. On Sundays I choose to sit down and glance at my calendar. If I know I’m working two nights in a row then that day I’ll pick a crockpot recipe or if we have plans around dinner time I’ll be sure to pick a meal that’s super easy and simple to make. If you think about it this is also getting your life organized somewhat too! Double win!
  • Grocery shopping! Try and stick to local farmers markets, Sprouts, or even Trader Joes. These types of stores 1) are cheaper in price especially in produce and 2) Don’t sell food with a ton of preservatives and additives. We want to stay away from the processed food market, we want food items that are in their original state or at least as close to them as possible.

Alrighty everyone so now you know what I have been up to in my fitness journey and you can help keep me accountable when I feel like falling off the wagon. Because trust me it happens to me too, I’m not perfect I love me a good pizza and ice cream just like everybody else too! But I really want this healthy lifestyle to take over the majority of my life so I can be healthy and fit living a long life and grow old with my husband and children. OOTD

I love shopping and buying new clothes but if your a mommy like me then you know those days of strolling through the mall walking into all your favorite stores and just browsing until you find that perfect outfit are few and far between. Nowadays when I go to the mall, it’s a dang adventure, I have to know exactly what I’m looking for, and get in and out before the littlest one has a melt down. My purse is stocked with a sippy cup, snacks, blanket, pacifier, and the occasional toy hoping to prolong my sons contentment in the stroller for as long as possible. Forget meeting a friend anymore to shop, I need to be in and out of the mall in record time. Oh ya and don’t forget we have to coordinate our shopping time around babies nap schedule, you wouldn’t dare go to the mall without a nap in tow! With that being said I get a lot of my shopping done online, and not just for myself but when it comes to all purchases. I just find it so much less stressful to be shopping at home, in the quiet of my own house, and usually wait until Kaiden is napping. I wait until items I’ve been eyeballing are on sale or I wait for “free shipping” deals. I hate paying shipping, is that a deal breaker to anyone else?

Today I wanted to share with you all the cutest online boutique store that I found on Instagram, it’s called Modern Vintage Boutique they have the cutest clothes ever and for a reasonable price. I love that they style every outfit with shoes and accessories, sometimes I struggle with how to put pieces together. With the holidays coming up I decided to splurge on myself for once and update my wardrobe a little bit.

Grinch Kabobs

It’s that time again, holiday parties everywhere!! This particular party was for Girl Scouts and Kirra needed to bring a treat. I feel like a majority of holiday parties are filled with nothing but cakes and cookies, don’t get me wrong I love all the sweets during the holidays, but I wanted to bring something a little different yet still yummy to eat. For my inspiration I went to where else…Pinterest, and found this adorable recipe for Grinch Kabobs.

Not only is this recipe perfect for the holiday season but Kirra had a great time helping out and putting it together! Super easy and one less thing for us moms to do!

Rough patches

Do you ever have one of those days where you just feel like life isn’t going as planned? You continue to ask yourself where did I go wrong? Am I being punished? These last couple months have been so rough for me, I feel like I can’t catch a break, and now I think all these life changes are now manifesting itself into me getting sick. This past week I have had the worst headaches that literally last all day, from the second I open my eyes in the morning to the moment I finally fall asleep. I’ve never had headaches so bad that no amount of medication will take the edge off, where I literally feel drunk because I’m so light headed. It has really been interfering with my life and it’s such a downer. I really feel it’s a combination of both stress, some other life changing events, and then the aftermath of my miscarriage.

Just a quick little update on my body/mind after miscarriage, emotionally I feel like I’m still a wreck! I still have to fight back the tears if anyone asks how I’m doing or if my current pregnant friends have great news to share with me. Don’t get me wrong I’m beyond excited for all my friends that are currently pregnant and I wish them nothing but the best but I can’t help but think how far along I would be, I’d probably be showing now, and we would most likely already know the gender of the baby. It just really sucks to not be at that point anymore and I still can’t help but wonder why and what went wrong? I really don’t know how long this feeling is going to last? When am I not going to want to burst into tears at the thought of my baby that could be? It probably doesn’t help that 2 months later I am still experiencing the miscarriage, yes that’s right, I’m still bleeding, and have been bleeding for almost 8 weeks now non stop. I’m just so frustrated, when is this going to end? Am I still experiencing a miscarriage, am I having a period, is this hormonal bleeding, did I have another miscarriage? So many unanswered questions that can’t be answered that only make me more and more stressed and depressed everyday! I just want to move on with my life! I just want to forget this happened and start fresh! Why do I have to have a constant reminder everyday of my loss? Where is that light at the end of the tunnel? I just really need to see a glimpse of it, I don’t know how much longer I can take of this. I feel like my body just hates me right now! This constant state of bleeding is probably a contributor to my headaches. I already have such low blood pressure so I’m sure with everything going on it’s even lower now and not to mention my iron level has probably dramatically decreased. I’m going to need a dang blood transfusion by the time my body gets it together! Gees! I’ve made it a point to start taking my prenatal vitamins again, I’m taking an extra iron supplement, and then I’m back to drinking my Shakeology again. I need all the vitamins and nutrients I can get right now. I feel like my body is so weak and unhealthy right now and I need to get back on track. I haven’t been working out due to my slight depression, I just don’t have the desire or motivation right now but I know that I need to get back on that wagon. Working out will definitely help my stress level decrease and I remember when I was working out consistently I felt so much better mentally not just physically. I’m going to slowly start getting back into my workouts here in the next couple days and then the typical cliché thing to do…but my New Years resolution is to get back into shape and be the healthiest I’ve ever been! What are your guys New Years resolutions I’d love to hear?

I found this picture on Pinterest that I’d thought I’d share, it’s little pictures like this that can sometimes be very inspiring and help you get through your day. I just love Pinterest, it’s the best! Enjoy!

Blended families

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! We had a really great time with family and friends but unfortunately this year my lil family was incomplete. Every year my ex and I rotate who my daughter is with on Thanksgiving and this year she was with her dad. I’m sure there are a lot of you out there that can relate to me on this one.

You want to be excited about the holidays but then again at the same time you feel emptiness because you’re not able to share this special day with your loved one.  It’s really hard when you walk in the door and your nieces come running up to you so excited to see you but then instantly are disappointed when they learn their cousin won’t be joining them today. Holidays almost feel like a constant reminder of where your life went wrong. I can recall countless holidays of me crying before it’s time to leave the house because of the guilt and sadness I feel. I’m sure it’s not only hard on me but my daughter as well. It’ll be nice when we get to the point where she can choose where she’d like to be, but then again that could just open up a whole different can of worms for me.
I remember before I left Kirra’s dad the one thing that kept me in the relationship was HER! I wanted to give my daughter a great life and felt so guilty for tearing apart her family. Here she was, this innocent baby and she never asked to be brought into this life. She never asked to be taken from the only home she’d ever known and have to go back and forth every day, split between two parents. I was so worried she’d be scarred from our breakup and grow up to be bitter and not believe in Love or fairytale romances. I felt like I was starting her off on such a wrong foot and she’d feel so abandoned or if the break up was her fault. Even now after 4 years I worry our relationship isn’t what it could have been. Now that I’m remarried and have another child with my husband I worry that she’ll feel envious of her brother and the fact that his parents are still together and he doesn’t have to go back and forth all the time. I contemplated staying in the relationship and sacrificing my own happiness for her happiness. As a mother you will do anything for your child and so I was willing to live a life of lies in order to give her what I thought was what was best.  I really hope and pray when she gets older she’ll understand why I had to leave and understand I did what I had to do and know it was  for her!
A good thing to remember is, kids are a lot more intuitive then we think, you may be fooling everybody else around you but a child will always see through you and see the pain your hiding.  This honestly helped me make my final decision; I didn’t want my child growing up thinking it was ok to be in a relationship like this. If it’s not ok for your daughter, sister, or friend to be in a relationship like this then why is it ok for you? That question will always stick with me and was one of the key factors of my breakup. So I took that leap and brought huge change to my daughter’s life, only time will tell but I have to keep reminding myself I did the right thing for her and I, because of me she will know what’s it’s like to be in a healthy relationship and she won’t make the same mistakes that I did. So on Christmas when I’m feeling down because she’s at her dads for the holiday I need to remind myself, I gave her the greatest gift of all, I gave her a life of truth, happiness, and healthy relationships!!

Turkey and Kale Pasta bake

I posted this recipe on my Instagram and received the greatest response of people asking for the recipe, so I thought I’d share it here on my blog for everyone to see.  Not only was this recipe a huge success with the family but my daughter had absolutely no idea she was eating Kale. If there’s any way I can hide some veggies into our meals, I’ll definitely take it.

I am constantly trying new clean eating recipes for my family every week, some of which are hits and others great misses. My husband and son will pretty much eat anything but my 7 year old daughter on the other hand is a different story, she is the pickiest thing ever. In her mind everything is “disgusting” or “looks gross”! Drives me nuts when I’m cooking dinner and I have her negative commentary in the background, the rule at our house though is that you need to at least try a bite before you make your final decision on if you like it or not. I also refuse to make separate dinners for each family member, you get what you get and if you don’t like it then I guess you’re going to bed hungry. Sounds a little harsh but if I didn’t my daughter would eat nothing but Mac and Cheese or P&J for the rest of her life! Does anyone else have the same troubles as me?

I found this awesome recipe on Instagram, Healthy Fitness Meals . I absolutely love this page and have found so many great dinner dishes. It’s so much easier to save a picture and recipe on my phone then search a recipe book and remember to write down the page number. Nowadays with technology, having recipes right in your pocket for when you go grocery shopping or start your meal planning is just way more convenient.  I will definitely share my meal planning technique in a future blog so you can get an idea how I stay organized! But for now here is my recipe for the Turkey and Kale pasta bake. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

3 cups whole wheat pasta

1 tsp olive oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

4 large garlic cloves, minced

2 lbs. ground turkey, extra lean

28oz tomato sauce

2 tbsp. honey or maple syrup

1 tbsp. Italian herb seasoning (oregano or basil), dried

1 tsp salt

1 tsp ground black pepper

4-5 cups kale (1 bunch), stem removed and chopped

2 cups low fat mozzarella cheese, shredded

Directions:

Cook pasta as directed by package. Preheat oven to 375. Preheat large skillet on medium heat and add olive oil. Add onion and garlic, sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add turkey and cook until browned. Add tomato sauce, honey, herb seasoning, salt, pepper, kale, and stir. Add previously cooked pasta and stir.

Transfer half of the mixture to 9×13 baking pan and sprinkle with ¾ cup cheese. Top with remaining mixture and sprinkle with 1 ¼ cups cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
